SEMICOLONS EXERCISE #2 EXERCISE Add semicolons where necessary and desirable. 1. College and universities from the United Kingdom to the United States have different levels of rank. 2. In the United States a teacher may be full-time full-time teachers may be professors, lecturers, or instructors meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, full-time teachers may be professors, readers, and lecturers. 3. Interestingly enough, some teachers may not be full-time some faculty work as part-time faculty. 4. Part-time faculty are simply called part-time faculty or adjuncts adjunct is the name given to faculty who are often not full-time. 5. Adjunct faculty are very important to the institution however, the institution may not be as important to the adjuncts. 6. Some adjunct faculty work at many different colleges other adjunct faculty may work in different departments on the same campus. 7. Some reasons why part-time faculty are different from their full-time counterparts include: education, the ability to do research, funding available, personal obligations, etc. 8. Regardless of whether of not a faculty member is part-time or full-time, a student should still give the teacher their full attention some part-time faculty are absolutely indispensable to the department and they choose to teacher part-time voluntarily. 9. For example, in one department, the most effect faculty member is a woman who works part-time voluntarily you see, she has two young children at home. 10. In a sense, she would rather be a full-time mother than a full-time teacher in another department, we have a young man who is a full-time lawyer. 11. The young man works full-time as a lawyer however, he loves to discuss the law. 12. Because this young man works full-time as a lawyer, he is privy to many changes within the law as a result, he is one of the most knowledgeable criminal justice teachers on campus. 13. Depending on the funding situation within the school, a department may be composed of many part- time faculty members other departments may be composed of more full-time faculty members. 14. The difference is not the quality of teaching simply, the difference is strongly rooted in who is available to teach full-time and what is the funding available to pay full-time teachers. 15. In some cases, adjuncts and part-time faculty are tough to find in many cases, graduate students or advanced undergraduate students are hired to help to teach basic-level classes. 16. Regardless of your teacher's status, it is important to respect them again, you need to appreciate the fact that they may just like doing the job (as they may have other full-time occupations).
